Top 10 Reasons to Use Apple Cider Vinegar for Your Health

Author: Hope Pope

Copyright (c) 2008 Hope Pope

Here are top 10 reasons to use Raw Apple Cider Vinegar for your health. (However, don't use anything but "Raw apple cider vinegar. Braggs is a great brand.)

1. Energy. Take 1 tablespoon, 2 times a day in 8 ounces to 16 ounces of water. This is especially helpful if you have a baby or little children... and you need the energy to keep up with them.

2. Bug bites. To take away the itching and the bites quickly, dab the bites with straight ACV or mix it with half water, half vinegar.

3. Slows down bleeding during menstrual cycle. To lessen the bleeding each period, take 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar in a glass of water... 2 times a day.

4. Cuts. Hippocrates used raw apple cider vinegar to treat cuts. It was helpful years ago and it is helpful now. It stops the bleeding rather quickly and heals cuts as well. Put a compress of straight ACV or mix it with half vinegar and half water. Does it sting? Yes, it typically does... just like any other treatment would. But it will only typically sting for a few seconds.

5. Shiny hair. Use apple cider vinegar after shampooing for a beautiful shine. Mix one half of a cup of ACV with one half of a cup of water... and then rinse the hair with this. Then rinse again to get it all out of the hair.

6. Fever. Put 1 cup of APPLE CIDER VINEGAR in the tub and soak in it for 10 to 20 minutes. If the fever is extra high, it is recommended to do this two times a day. This is the only thing that worked to bring my child's fever down... on more than a few occasions.

7. Cysts. Dab ACV on the cyst for a few minutes (if the cyst is really big, a longer time is suggested... such as 10 minutes). Putting ACV on a bandaid ... and applying a bandaid on the cyst all night ... is often helpful.

8. Earache. Using ACV in the ear has shown to help an earache. Make a mixture of ½ tsp ACV and ½ tsp distilled water... and put a few drops in the ear.

9. Toothache. Swish the Vinegar in the mouth... especially the area where it is affected. Keep it in the mouth as long as possible. ACV has a very strong smell ... so some people might not be able to do this... but if it is possible, it can be very helpful.

10. It's cheap! It costs less than $6 (in most health stores) and it cures so many things.

Beans And Their Great Health Benefits

Author: Cole D. Carson

Beans are an often-overlooked source of incredible health benefits. - They have a lot of carbs, leading people to believe they should be avoided and seen as a weight gain risk only. Nothing could be farther from the truth though, as research has shown that the carbohydrates found in most beans are of the complex variety. Complex carbohydrates are not contributors to any sort of weight gain, instead providing the brain and muscles with a lot of good, stable energy supplies.

Beans actually contain a wider variety of healthy nutrients than most foods. These include calcium, potassium, vitamin B6, magnesium, folate, and alpha-linolenic acid. These nutrients work together on several key areas of the body promoting total health. Beans also happen to be good sources of complete proteins, which is rare in plants. Plants, while having many different nutrients, often lack complete proteins of any kind. This is unfortunate, as protein is a vital ingredient to the healthy and normal functioning of the human body, and the most readily available sources of protein have negative effects on the heart. Beans, however, are plentiful in protein.

More important than their simple nutrition, beans are generating a lot of talk because they offer protection from many illnesses found in America today. Extensive studies have shown that regularly consuming beans can help you significantly lower your risk for heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and even cancer. How much? A study done at Michigan State University found that people eating beans regularly had as much as a 22% reduction in their likelihood to suffer from a cardiovascular disease, and the powerful energy-providing nutrients in beans can help the body more effectively manage its energy sources, aiding in weight-loss. This also can help boost your energy levels throughout the day, making you more active.

Also contributing to beans increasing popularity with the health-conscious is their high amounts of antioxidants. Antioxidants, of course, are nutrients that guard the body against free radicals. Free radicals are agents that attack and damage the body, causing many undesired illnesses and effects. The most extreme of these, of course, are premature aging, and cancer. This means that beans, while protecting you from the development of cancer, may also help you both look younger and feel younger with increased energy and the benefits of antioxidants.

So which beans are the best for you? Studies done at Michigan State University have concluded that "dry" beans are the best. Overall, though most all beans contain similar nutrients and benefits, some of the best are considered to be Lima beans, Navy beans, Kidney beans, and Pinto beans. Ideally, it is recommended that you get about 3 cups of beans per week in order to maximize their wonderful health benefits, but scientists have shown that as little as 1 cup of beans consumed each week will yield impressive results.

Beans are wonderful sources of nutrition that haven't truly been recognized until now. Once thought of as a fattening food that gives you gas, beans are now being correctly hailed as nutritional giants that pack a lot of benefits in a tiny package. New science and extensive research has done a lot to increase our understanding of the bean, and fortunately for us, beans come in limitless varieties. This makes it easy to get them in your diet, and you can find them anywhere.

What Are The Benefits Of Flax Seed Oil?

The Benefits Of Flax Seed Oil?Author: Vincent Abrugar

Flax seed oil has a history rich with treatments and is believed to help in the prevention of certain illnesses. Flax seed oil is sold as a liquid, but must remain refrigerated at all times. Recent research studies have indicated that flaxseed oil may help to reduce high blood pressure, lessen high cholesterol and is currently being evaluated for its potential to prevent cancer.

The key to Flax seed oil and its healthy benefits is that of essential fatty acids, which are especially valuable since the body needs them in order to function properly. The body, however, is unable to manufacture essential fatty acids on it's own and receives benefits from products containing such ingredients. One such benefit is derived from one of the essential fatty acids found in flax seed oil, which is believed to reduce the risk of heart disease and various other ailments.

Flax seed oil also provides a rich source of lignans, which are believed to possibly prevent certain types of cancer and help to fight against certain infections, including bacterial, viral, etc. Among its specific benefits, flax seed oil is thought to aid in the reduction of high cholesterol, control high blood pressure and protect against heart disease. Certain studies have shown that lowering cholesterol may also reduce the risk of heart disease.

Flax seed oil is believed to aid in the inflammation resulting from gout, which often presents itself with sudden and severe joint pain or swelling. By reducing the discomfort of these symptoms, the individual may find relief from the sudden onset of gout. Because flax seed oil is a fiber product, it is often associated with relieving constipation and may even ease an upset stomach.

With its many believed benefits on the inside, flax seed oil is thought to promote many cosmetic improvements as well. In addition to the treatment of acne, eczema and sunburns, flax seed oil is also believed to promote healthy hair and nails. The lignans found in flax seed oil are also thought to protect against various aging effects and a variety of other ailments. Flax seed oil is also believed to help soften dry skin when applied externally to the affected area, but may also prove beneficial for aching or injured skin.

While flax seed is believed to be safe in general, there are potential risks that consumers should consider. As is the case with many ingredients and treatment products, there have been serious allergic reactions that have been reported by flax seed users. In addition, individuals who are already taking any type of medication must consult a physician before using flax seed or flax seed oil, which may interfere with the effects of other medicine. There are certain individuals who should consider avoiding flax seed and flax seed oil altogether, including women who are pregnant or breast-feeding. In addition, flax seed may be dangerous for anyone with a history of certain types of cancer or diabetes and other specific ailments.

Health Benefits of Pumpkin Seeds – Get Rid of Health Problems

Author: peterhutch

Pumpkin seeds are one of nature's almost perfect foods. They are a natural source of beneficial constituents such as carbohydrates, amino acids and unsaturated fatty acids. They contain most of the B vitamins, along with C, D, E, and K. They also have the minerals calcium, potassium, niacin, and phosphorous. Pumpkin seeds have mainly been used to treat prostate and bladder problems, but they have also been known to help with depression and learning disabilities.

Pumpkins are very high in potassium, and have good amounts of beta carotene and vitamin C. They are also a good source of calcium and fibre, and as well as other vitamins and minerals. Pumpkin seed oil and pumpkin seeds are a good source of zinc and unsaturated fatty acids (good fats).

Fresh and cooked pumpkin is chock full of vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin A, potassium, alpha-carotene, zinc, beta carotene, and lutein. It’s easy to add pumpkin to your favorite baked goods and dishes during the colder months, and the vitamins and minerals can help keep your health in tip-top shape during the winter. Pumpkin is rich, satisfying, and can be used in a number of recipes as a meal or in dessert; if you cook it in a healthy way, it might also give you an excuse to indulge in an extra slice of pumpkin pie this year! Still, eating pumpkin isn’t the only way to enjoy its natural benefits.

Nutritional Value of Pumpkin Seeds

Snacking on ¼-1/2 cup of pumpkin seeds can deliver the nutrients mentioned at the outset of this article, as well as calcium, vitamin K, protein and important omega-3 fatty acids. Pumpkin seeds can be eaten raw, baked, roasted or toasted.

Because pumpkin seeds and good health share such an important relationship, plan to make pumpkin seeds a regular part of your diet. Keep a supply on hand and store the seeds in a tightly sealed container in your fridge.

Pumpkin seeds and onions mixed together with a little soy milk make a great remedy for parasitic worms in the digestive tract. To make this remedy, liquefy three tablespoons of pumpkin seeds that have been soaked three hours, one-half of a small onion, one-half cup soy milk, and one teaspoon honey. Take this amount three times daily, three days in a row.

Pumpkin seeds, also known as pepitas, are flat, dark green seeds. Some are encased in a yellow-white husk, although some varieties of pumpkins produce seeds without shells. Like cantaloupe, cucumber, and squash, pumpkins and pumpkin seeds belong to the gourd or Cucurbitaceae family.

Nutty and salty with a crisp-chewy texture, pumpkin seeds make a nutritious and flavorful snack. Boiled, baked, or even raw, pumpkin seeds are packed full of vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Just one serving (about 1/4 cup) gives you almost half the recommended daily amounts of manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, copper, vitamin K, and zinc. Pumpkin seeds are a good source of protein and monounsaturated fats.

Pumpkin seed oil has an excellent ratio of those Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Often flax and hemp oils are rated as the best with pumpkin seed also offering a great source of these valuable plant fats important for cellular function and many of the systems in the body. Basically keeps your coat glossy, skin clear and a puts a spring in your step.

Who Should Use Shea Butter?

Author: Joseph Constant

Who should be using Shea butter? Everyone! Whether you have white skin, black skin, brown skin, yellow skin, or purple skin this product is for you. Down below are three areas where you can benefit from it:

1. Shea Butter for your Face

The face is the main beneficiary of the daily use of the product. Massage your face using a small portion of the butter. Pay attention to the lower part of the nose, to the corner of your lips, ears and finally your forehead. After shaving, apply it again to avoid bumps.

2. Shea Butter for your Hair

A person with beautiful hair can enhance beauty tremendously. To rejuvenate your hair, massage a generous amount of African Shea butter on your scalp and in your hair.

Not only does it act as a good moisturizer for your scalp after you have washed your hair; it improves hair texture and has even been shown to stimulate hair growth.

3. Shea Butter for your Body

Shea butter penetrates deep into the skin to provide a lasting protection against the cold & the sun. Because of its softness followed by its high nonsaponifiable fraction,it is excellent for a body massage.

Sun & Summer: Apply it in the evening to regain freshness. Refer to the treatment mentioned for your hair which gets dry in the summer. Do not hesitate to oil hair before swimming and to maintain this treatment after the season is over. Your skin suffers during the whole summer.

Regular use of it in addition to sun screen products, before and after sun exposition, leaves you with tanned skin and avoids peeling. It is no longer popular for men to have lined skin.

Use Shea butter after shaving for a healthy and younger feeling skin. Gentlemen, at least once a week, apply a generous amount from head to foot, with special care for joint (elbows and knees), toes, heels and nails.

Sport and Shea Butter: Shea butter is recommended for people who are active in sports. It has been used by African for centuries to relieve muscles tension and stress. Before an effort Shea butter accelerates warm-ups.

Afterwards it helps drain toxins from sore muscles for a faster recovery. If you do experience pain due to strenuous activity such as running, fighting, or heavy lifting, apply a generous amount of the butter and rub in a circular motion to the area that is under pain. Wet a towel in warm water; squeeze the towel until the towel is lightly damp. Gently press the towel over the affected area.

This allows the Shea butter to easily absorb into the skin to perform its job. Within a moment of time, the pain should settle down. Do not throw away your Bengay or painkillers just yet.

If you find that the butter does not do anything to ease the pain, you can always go back to what you were using before.

What an amazing product. If you are not convinced by the benefits listed above, that is fine; there are more benefits associated with this amazing product that apply to everybody, even yourself.

What are the Health Benefits of Honey?

Author: Lauren B. Wallace

Honey has been around for centuries. It offers a wide array of health benefits, ranging anywhere from sore throat relief to wound healing. However, not too many people are aware of the health benefits of this particular product. Very few people purchase the product, and those that do purchase honey end up keeping that same little bottle for a couple years. Our current use of honey is very minimal; perhaps learning more about its health attributes will entice us to incorporate it into our daily diets.

First of all, it has been proven that a spoonful of honey is more effective than cough syrup in treating coughs. Many people use the product to treat or relive cold symptoms, such as a sore throat or the common cough. The product’s antioxidant and antimicrobial effects, on the other hand, provide excellent results in wound healing. And as an added bonus, honey soothes wounds on impact.

Another benefit of honey is that it can raise antioxidant levels in the blood. This particular product has the same amount of antioxidants as spinach, apples, oranges, and strawberries. A recent study proved that people who consumed 4 tablespoons of honey with 16 ounces of water daily improved their antioxidant levels in the blood. This is very important because antioxidants protect our bodies from numerous life threatening diseases, such as cancer. And if you happen to consume calcium supplements, you should know that incorporating honey along with the supplement will enhance your calcium absorption. These are just a few of the proven benefits of honey. There are numerous other benefits, including relief from allergies. So if you want to target a specific ailment or improve your eating habits all together, consider doing some more research on the numerous health benefits of honey.

Why Garlic May Be Able To Help You Be Healthier

Author: Patricia Wagner

Garlic packs a powerful health punch! This is not a secret but a well-known fact. Garlic's health benefits have not just recently been discovered, but they've been known for centuries.

Way back in the history of China, the Chinese were well aware of the ability of the lowly garlic bulb to promote healing. Colonial American settlers also knew about these health benefits. In fact, from just about the dawn of civilization garlic has been highly regarded as a disease fighter. And this knowledge has been widespread throughout many different cultures.

You probably know that the builders of the great pyramid of Giza were garlic- eating slaves. And that was way back in 3000 B.C. The Bible tells us that the early Hebrews loved to eat garlic. Garlic was one of the things they missed the most after their exodus from Egypt. This fact is recorded in the book of numbers:
"We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely, the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leaks and the onions, and the garlic."

Although it's true that the nobility were not fond of garlic and actually avoided it, that was not true of Roman soldiers. They regularly ate garlic. One of the most famous ancient poets, Virgil, advised that reapers should eat garlic since they labored under the hot sun.
So by now it should be no surprise to you that garlic has been used to promote health for thousands of years and in many places around the world.

Today many people are convinced the common cold can be helped by eating garlic and even cancer can be fought against by eating garlic. A number of researchers believe that garlic can even relieve symptoms of rheumatism, high blood pressure, and even tuberculosis.
Scientists today, like the health professionals in ancient cultures, really are convinced garlic can enhance your health.

So far research in our day and age reveals cancer and bacterial infections can be fought against by eating the humble garlic bulb. Let's add fungal infections to that list as well. And as for stomach cancer, it's been found that there are substances in garlic that block cancers in animals used for laboratory research.

What is the name of the mysterious substance found in garlic that can fight cancer? It's called allicin. It's also the substance that accounts for garlic's unmistakable flavor.

What else can garlic do that hasn't already been mentioned in this article? Your immune system may be strengthened if you eat garlic. Your cholesterol may be lowered if you eat garlic as well. And eating garlic may just be able to protect your heart.

Dr. Benjamin Lau has been the professor of microbiology and immunology at Loma Linda University in Southern California. He has specialized in researching chemicals found in plants and he's done his research for over 20 years. He discovered garlic can help your immune system, lower your cholesterol, and wage war against cancer and other tumors.

He isn't the only one who has been researching the benefits for your health that can come from eating garlic. Other research groups have also discovered similar findings.

Garlic is offered in a number of different forms. You might not want to eat it fresh. You might prefer to take it in tablet form instead. But in whatever form garlic is ingested, it can help your health.

Since garlic is a proven health benefactor, why not add it to your diet and see if you don't become healthier.

Is Mineral Makeup Really Good For Your Skin?

Author: Erin Kelley

Discovered in the late 70's, mineral makeup has only recently started gaining popularity in the cosmetics world. One of the most famous claims regarding mineral makeup is that it is actually good for your skin. Is there any truth to this claim? Read on and find out.

First of all - what is mineral makeup? Mineral makeup is made from naturally-occuring crushed minerals, usually zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, iron oxides and mica. These loose minerals are combined together in different quantities to make a variety of mineral makeup powder formulations such as foundations, finishing powders, concealers, blushers, bronzers and eye shadows. The minerals titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in particular, act as a natural sunblock, effectively filtering UVA and UVB rays to deliver sun protection of up to SPF 20.

Mineral makeup is free of irritants like perfumes, preservatives (such as parabens), alcohols and dyes. Many traditional makeup brands use synthetic FD&C dyes in their products - however, these dyes have been identified as the one of the leading causes of allergic reactions in makeup. Most mineral makeup lines do not use synthetic dyes, instead, the colors are derived from naturally-occuring iron oxide pigments. All this makes mineral makeup very suitable for people with sensitive skin. In fact, mineral makeup has even been used after surgical procedures like laser peels, when skin is at its most sensitive.

However, not all mineral makeup lines are completely free of chemical irritants. Some brands use the bismuth oxychloride, which can be very irritating on the skin. Bismuth oxychloride is a mineral that is used in some major mineral makeup lines because it imparts a shimmery look to their makeup, and is a cheap filler. Bismuth oxychloride is also heavy, hence the need to 'buff' or force it into your skin. Mineral makeup lines that do not use bismuth oxychloride tend to be lighter in texture and easier to apply.

Mineral makeup can also be good for acne sufferers. By its very nature, mineral cosmetics are non-comedogenic, oil-free, anti-inflammatory and cannot harbor bacteria, which means that acne blemishes can be covered or concealed without further aggravating them. Mineral makeup will not necessarily cure acne, but skin has a much better chance of healing while wearing it, compared to traditional makeup. Many have also reported that they have fallen asleep wearing their mineral makeup without suffering any breakouts the following day. In fact, some mineral makeup lines even have mineral night-time treatments, which are specially-formulated mineral powders that you can wear every night to improve your skin. A good excuse to wear makeup to bed?

Crucially, mineral makeup avoids the use of talc, a known carcinogen found in a lot of traditional makeup. There are also no petrochemicals or coal-derived ingredients, common in a lot of traditional makeup. As you can see, the ingredient listing in say, a mineral foundation is much shorter compared to a traditional liquid foundation.

The positive claims of mineral makeup cannot be applied to all mineral makeup brands or all people. Some will have different reactions compared to others. It is always good to research first before you buy.

How Green is Your Makeup? Introducing Purely Cosmetics: Mineral Makeup for the Eco-Woman

Robyn Bloom
Owner & Creator/ Purely Cosmetics
www.PurelyCosmetics.com

"My success has always been on listening to my customers and
providing them with solutions to meets their needs."

CELESTE: How were you introduced to mineral makeup?

ROBYN: When I stopped working for Corporate America, I promised myself two weeks off from wearing makeup to let my skin breathe. Five years later, I was talking with a friend about the crappy care I took of my skin. She was the one who introduced me to mineral makeup and the wonderful feeling (or should I say "lack" of feeling) of wearing no makeup at all! I was hooked.

Not long afterwards, my daughter and I were shopping, when we were accosted by someone with a mineral makeup kiosk. He asked me what type of makeup I wore, and I proudly told him, thinking he'd go away. He was my first educator about the differences in mineral makeup and the chemicals that are put into the household name brands. I plunked down $60 (yikes) for a jar of foundation for my teenage daughter right on the spot. Deciding I didn't want any of those irritants in my makeup any more than I did for my daughter, I started looking online for mineral makeup companies.

CELESTE: How did you formulate your own line?

ROBYN: After reading many forums and looking at all the various ingredients that can go into mineral makeup, I decided to formulate my own line using the purist ingredients I could find while still offering a reasonably priced product. I researched the properties of the various ingredients, the pros and cons of each, and ended up with 2 foundation formulations: my basic foundation that has the minimalist approach, using only zinc oxide, mica, titanium dioxide, and iron oxides. It's natural, provides sunscreen protection, and works for those with even the most sensitive skin.

CELESTE: Tell us about your Skin Smoothing formula.

ROBYN: My Skin Smoothing formula is a geared more for the mature crowd - it contains silk powder to hydrate your skin, jojoba oil to nourish it, boron to reduce pore visibility, and silica to blur fine lines. It also has more zinc oxide and titanium dioxide in it to increase the sunscreen protection (the silk powder also reflects UVA and UVB rays), in addition to providing more coverage without looking "cakey" for those of us who's skin isn't as perfect as it was when we were 20-years old.

CELESTE: How do you test your products?

ROBYN: There is no animal testing involved in any of my products - I use REAL people with REAL skin issues (blotchiness, acne, roseacea, etc). Because I do not believe in a One-Size-Fits-All approach, my starter kits are fully customizeable with the customer's choice of shades and types of products they want included. Right down to the brushes.
CELESTE: What kind of brushes do you carry?

ROBYN: I carry both synthetic, vegan approved makeup brushes as well as natural haired bristles. The natural hair brushes are only handmade, first cut hairs, making them the softest because their tips are still intact (those would get ruined with machinery) and pointy instead of blunt cut (think about how soft the hair was on your legs the first time you shaved them versus the blunt ends you get when the stubble grows back in).

CELESTE: What is the Beauty Blender?

ROBYN: It's a new type of applicator. It's a hot pink egg shaped sponge that applies makeup flawlessly and without the mess that brushes can. When your Beauty Blender needs replacing (they should last about 4 months), you can send it back for recycling! Learn more about the Beauty Blender here: http://www.purelycosmetics.com/beauty-blender-p-197.html.

CELESTE: Are you using natural and/or organic ingredients for your products?

ROBYN: Yes, all of my products are either organic, or organically derived. Some HAVE to be produced in a lab, as they can be toxic without the impurities removed (such as iron oxides). Those that are not straight minerals (stearates, such as magnesium myristate or zinc stearate), are vegetable derived (usually they can be vegetable or animal derived; I try to stay as vegan as possible). The only powder I use that is not vegan (and also has a shelf life, but it's 2 years) is 100% Pure Silk Powder, which comes from the cocoon of the silk worm.

CELESTE: Do you use any parabens, petroleum, or perfume?

ROBYN: There are no parabens, talc, bismuth, or preservatives of any sort in any of my products.

Many mineral makeup companies use many of the same basic ingredients: mica, titanium dioxide, and zinc oxide. Larger companies will use lots of fillers and ingredients that don't belong to bulk up their products. Nor do I use micronized particles, as the safety of these have yet to be determined. A good comparison of many well known companies versus my product can be found here: http://www.purelycosmetics.com/mineral-makeup-comparisons-i-10.html.

CELESTE: Is your packaging recyclable?

ROBYN: The packaging isn't recyclable but they certainly are reusable.

CELESTE: What sets your line apart from other natural beauty products on the market?

ROBYN: What will set many small companies apart is the texture, adhesion, staying power, and obviously, the shade selection. I also believe that customer service ranks right up there.
